Oldboy
Thursday–Sunday
April 26–29
Davies Theatre
6 + 8:30 pm
An ordinary man is kidnapped and imprisoned for 15 years in a shabby cell, with no explanation. Released at last, he is equipped with money, a cellphone and expensive clothes. As he tries to understand the reason for his imprisonment and get his revenge, he learns that his mysterious tormentor has a greater plan for him. Based on a Japanese manga, Oldboy inspired the present wave of ultra-violent revenge-themed cinema from South Korea and won the Grand Jury Prize at the 2004 Cannes Film Festival.
“It’s a movie of such jaw-dropping violence, wild improbability and dazzling style it overpowers all resistance” (Chicago Tribune).
