Me La Amargates Tú
Tuesday, November 28, 2017
Music is a way to preserve culture, and Me La Amargates Tú is an ensemble of multinational talent, with a mission of presenting the unique musical styles of the Jewish Sephardic music and Spanish sounds of the 15th, 16th and 17th centuries. The Sephardic Jews lived throughout the Iberian Peninsula until expulsion in the Spanish Inquisition, and this music represents the oral traditions of the people, in their traditional Ladino language. The melodies bring influences from Spanish, Turkish, Arabic and Balkan music, and tell the stories of everyday life with power and emotion. The artists hail from five different countries and have studied under various masters across the globe. Their music puts a modern spin on a melding of past and present culture.
