Program Goals

Value-added learning distinguishes UW-Eau Claire

UWEC has a distinguished heritage of academic excellence and innovation that has produced generations of civic, business and cultural leaders. What sets Blugold graduates apart is the value-added experiences they find on our beautiful campus. Such practices have become known in higher education as "high-impact practices" and are found both inside and outside the classroom.

Our goal outside of the classroom is to expose and offer high-impact learning for all students.
By offering meaningful activities and programs, it is our hope students obtains the skills necessary
to make them employable, contributing members of our global society. The Association of American Colleges and Universities (AAC&U) has identified these 10 High-impact practices as such:

The Activities, Involvement & Leadership Office knows that employers seek to hire college graduates who put their knowledge and skills to practical use in real-world settings. According to AAC&U, The LEAP Vision for Learning, the top 5 skills they are seeking include:

  • Written and oral communication
  • Critical thinking and analytic reasoning
  • Ethical decision making
  • Complex problem solving
  • Teamwork skills in diverse groups

At UWEC, Activities, Involvement & Leadership Office implements a variety of intentional Student Learning Outcomes* within the activities and programming that align students to obtain these skills. Student Learning Outcomes include:
