Mission of the Council
- Advance UW-Eau Claire's Liberal Education Learning Goals and Outcomes.
- Help academic departments and academic and support programs develop, implement, and sustain useful and effective plans for assessing and advancing student learning.
- Demonstrate to internal and external audiences the successful learning of our students and our ongoing efforts to advance student learning.
- Support and contribute to EDI and other institutional initiatives related to student learning.
Function:
- Help departments and academic and support programs develop and improve plans for assessing student learning based on best practices and HLC guidelines.
- Annually collect and review reports from departments and academic and support programs about assessment and the demonstrated advancement of student learning. Reports are collected via an annual report to Academic Affairs.
- Annually report to Academic Affairs, summarizing student achievement of UW-Eau Claire's Liberal Education Learning Goals and Student Learning Outcomes.
- Develop and implement institutional level assessment activities (exit interviews; standardized exams; surveys).
- Prepare reports on student learning at UW-Eau Claire for UW-System's VSA program.
- Periodically review the effectiveness of plans and practices for asessing student learning at the University, department, and program levels.
Membership (16 members):
- Chair, Director of University Assessment (ex-officio, voting).
- A representative from the dean's office of each college and from the dean of students (ex-officio, voting)
- Faculty representatives: one from each professional college and three from the College of Arts and Sciences; 3-year appointment.
- Two representatives from academic and support programs; three-year appointment.
- Two students - one nominated by Student Senate, one selected at large; one-year appointment.
Functions of the Chair of CAASL on Bahlf of the Provost
- Chair the Council for Assessing and Advancing Student Learning.
- Provide assessment resources to departments and other programs (e.g., writing learning outcomes, rubrics, report templates, links to other assessment websites, etc.)
- Report to stakeholders about the status of assessment activity at UW-Eau Claire, and the status of student achievement of department, unit, program, and institutional learning goals and outcomes.
