Professional Experience

  • Co-founded and currently coordinating the Commanding English Program, one of 12 transitional programs worldwide selected to be profiled in the "mainstreaming" volume from the "Case Studies in Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages Practice" series.
  • Coordinated the training of approximately 100 tutors in the ASC.
  • Served as acting co-cordinator of ESL, EFL, TESOL programs.
  • Coordinated English as a Second Language (ESL) Program
  • Taught English, ESL/EFL, and GEN courses.
  • Served as Reading/Composition and ESL Specialist.

Conference Presentations

  • Academic Vocabulary Development at the Midwest TESOL Conference in Indianapolis, IN (Fall 1992)
  • Co-presented an invited sesion, The Commanding English Program and Generation 1.5 at the Wisconsin Association for College Admission Counseling Conference, Green Bay, May 2005.
  • Co-presented an invited session, Growing ESL Populations in Postsecondary Education at the Wisconsin ACT Council Conference, Stevens Point, February 2005.
  • Mentored 8 students who participated in a national writing contest sponsored by Townsend Press; each received a $100 scholarship, May 2003 and 2004.
  • Mentored and co-presented with 4 former Commanding English Program students Generation 1.5: Dream Catching at the WI TESOL state conference, October 2003.
  • Served as proposal chair for the Wisconsin TESOL state conference, October 2003.
  • Co-presented Case Studies from the Commanding English Program: Implications for Advising, at the National Academic Advising Association Conference, Salt Lake City, September 2002.
  • Organized UWEC team to provide orientations and training session, Best Practices in ESL, based on the commanding English program for UW-Stevens Point faculty and administration, January 2002.
  • Provided EFL Training to high school instructors in Barlad, Romania, summer of 1999, 2001.
  • Presented with other panelists, Strategies for Assisting Mainstream Professors Working with ESL Students, TESOL Conference, Vancouver, March 2000.
  • Presented Beyond Dining at Dracula's and Dancing with Gypsies-The Culture of the Romanian Classroom at the Wisconsin TESOL conference, Madison, November, 1999.
  • Authored Academic Staff Professional Development Grant for two staff to attend national/international TESOL conference, New York, March 1999.

International Expereinces

  • Studied German in Vienna, Austria, Summer, 1986.
  • Traveled in Austria, Canada, Croatia, England, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Mexico, Morocco, Romania, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland, Turkey, and the Ukraine, 1981-present.
