This PDF document has been prepared by Dr. Lawrence Martin and students Sarah Wandersee and Tammy L. Goss, from the original book located in the Salzman Library at the St. Francis Seminary, Milwaukee , Wisconsin .
This project was sponsored by Office of Research Sponsored ProgramsUniversity of Wisconsin – Eau Claire.

A few notes to researchers: As this is the earliest version of Baraga's published Ojibwe books, the spelling of some words may be different from what he used in his later dictionary and grammar. In particular, he uses a ch spelling in the prayer book for what is spelled sh in the dictionary and grammar. Also, there is fairly frequent interchange of strong and weak consonants between this text and the grammar and dictionary. That is:
At times, vowels appear without nasalization in the prayer book, where they are followed by an n in the dictionary and grammar. Additionally, Baraga rarely separates a pre-verb from a verb with a hyphen, although he sometimes has a space between the two.
If you have suggestions on how to make this text, and others, more useful for researchers,
