Dear Colleagues:

 I hope you are as excited to return and begin the competition year as I am.  Our first MAFL tournament of the year will be the Iowa Swing.  MAFL #1 will be hosted by Wartburg College (Waverly, IA) on Saturday, September 29^th and MAFL #2 will be hosted by the University of Northern Iowa on Sunday, September 30th.  Thank you in advance to Penni Pier at Wartburg and Voiza Greene at UNI for hosting the first tournaments. 

 Information per tournament is as follows:

MAFL #1
September 29, 2007 (Saturday)
Wartburg College—Waverly, Iowa

SCHEDULE:

9:00—Registration—FAC Lobby (Fine Arts Center)
9:30--Extemp Draw
10:00--Round IA (Ext, Pers, Duo, ADS, Poe, POI)
11:15--Round1B (Imp, Prose, Inf, CA, DI)
12:30--Coaches Meeting (only at MAFL #1) TBA
1:00--Extemp Draw—Science Center 102
1:30--Round 2A
2:45--Round 2B
4:00--Finals
5:15--Finals
7:30—Awards-Orchestra Hall

 Patterns:  The following patterns will be used for all MAFL’s.

            Pattern A:  Ext, Pers, Duo, ADS, Poe, POI
Pattern B:  Imp, Prose, Inf, CA, DI

 Lunch Options: The Den and the Mensa/Cafeteria (both in the student center) will both be open that day, or you can order pizza or go to the Subway  a block away.

 Directions: When traveling north on 218 take the Waverly exit by the Wal-mart, follow 218 to Bremer, take a left on Bremer, the college entrance will be four blocks away on your right.

When traveling south on 218, take the Waverly exit, at the top of the ramp, take a left, follow that until you see McDonalds, turn left at the stop sign after McDonalds (it’s a four way stop).  The college will be 6 blocks way on your left.

You may park anywhere on campus.  See campus map….preferred parking is highlighted.

 Lodging:  Please visit HOTELS for a complete listing of all hotels.

 Entry Form: Each school may enter 6 students per event.  Each student may enter up to 4 events.  Because of the 1 hour and fifteen minute time limit for each round, it is strongly recommended that students are only double-entered and not tripled-entered for a pattern. It is the responsibility of the student to make it to their rounds on time.  Judges cannot wait past the time allotted for the round. Students may not do all 4 events in one pattern. 

 Entries are due Tuesday, September 25th by 5:00 p.m.  You may call, e-mail or fax your entry to the numbers/addresses on the registration form.  Please fill out the ENTRY FORM and fax/e-mail it to Karen Morris at morriskr@uwec.edu  or fax to (715) 836-3820.  PLEASE FILL OUT ONE ENTRY FORM PER MAFL UNLESS YOU HAVE THE EXACT SAME ENTRY FOR BOTH MAFL #1 AND MAFL#2.

 Membership Dues:  Please fill out the Membership Invoice and bring to the tournament along with your payment of 150.00.  This payment entitles your school to attend all 6 of the 2007-2008 MAFL’s.

 Schedule:  As this is the 2^nd day of a Swing Tournament.  We will begin 1 hour earlier than normal.

6:00—Awards—Interpreter’s Theatre
